National TV Broadcast Will Feature ACE

On Saturday afternoon, October 14, American Graduate Day, broadcast on many PBS stations across the country, will conduct a live interview with a former ACE student and two mentors from the San Antonio affiliate – 2012 alumna Sarai Martinez, and mentors Mary Stewart and Mike Kaiman

This four-hour broadcast marks the third consecutive year ACE students and mentors have been featured.

In addition, ACE Board First Vice Chairman Peter Davoren, President & CEO of Turner Construction, will take part in a CEO roundtable discussion about this year’s program themes – mentoring and workforce development.

2018 National Design and Construction Competition

The Construction Industry Round Table has announced the three design challenges for the 2018 competition:
  • Envision the Ideal School
  • Revitalize an Urban Block
  • Design a Flexible Home
ACE teams interested in participating can read more details here.

Like last year, teams must submit their entries on the digital platform created by the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF). This platform will open January 1, 2018.  March 7 is the submission deadline.  The three top finalists will be invited to the final competition in Washington, DC on April 30.

As teams develop their project, they have the option of collaborating on-line by using CAF’s learning platform DiscoverDesign.org.  It enables students and mentors to share designs and comments during the project development process.

First ACE Pre- and Post-Program Assessment

Last year the Eastern PA affiliate conducted ACE’s first pre- and post-program student assessment. Before and after participating in the program, all students completed surveys exploring their overall goals in ACE and asking them to assess their professional skills, confidence levels, post-secondary plans and interests, and knowledge about specific A-E-C fields and skills. Summary results can be viewed in this report.

Interested affiliates can contact Eastern PA affiliate director Tiffany Millner (easternpa@acementor.org) for more details, including a full report.
