John Giovannone

Whiting-Turner
2024 marks John Giovannone’s 40th anniversary working for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. Whiting-Turner, founded in 1909, is the nation’s 3rd largest General Contractor and 6th largest Construction Manager building upon core principles of Integrity, Excellence, Experience and Leadership.
John’s early career as an entry-level Project Engineer and on to Project Manager included Healthcare, Higher Education, Science + Technology and Pharmaceutical projects in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. John spent the majority on jobsites, working for great clients, and helping to manage some very complicated and rewarding construction projects.
Progressing through his career, and being fortunate working with great Whiting-Turner leaders, John was promoted to Vice President in the early 2000’s. It was at this time John’s focus shifted from singular projects to managing multiple operating groups, each with their own set of construction projects and opportunities. John’s operating group continued to work in New England while also gaining a tremendous opportunity to help start work with a new Higher Education client in Northern California. This included more Science + Technology laboratory construction which had become the cornerstone of John’s operating group over the years.
Most recently, as a Senior Vice President, John’s primary responsibilities are Whiting-Turner’s talented Business Development, Design Management and Practices Groups which serve Whiting-Turner’s 65+ locations across the company.
John and his wife Colleen live in Connecticut, and they are very proud of their two daughters who are currently getting started with their own professional careers. In his free time, you have a good chance of finding John on a chair lift, bike path or putting green.
