The Program

The ACE Mentor Program of Greater San Antonio celebrated 15 years in 2021! COVID-19 didn’t stop our committed and dedicated school champions, team leaders, and mentors who worked with students from 11 high school across the San Antonio region. The teams completed classes virtually and presented their projects virtually over a three-day period. Visit our Photos and Videos page to watch videos of our students showcasing their design/build projects and explaining how they transformed their ideas from an initial concept into finished building plans.

2021 was the first year of our summer internship program, which placed 15 students in nine different positions across 14 local A/E/C firms! Not only will students gain valuable experience, but all internships are also paid.

We awarded 21 students with college and summer camp scholarships totaling $55,500, a record number for the San Antonio program. In addition, one of our students earned an ACE National CMiC Allen Berg Memorial Scholarship. Olivia Salinas from Construction Careers Academy was one of 37 students from across the country to receive this honor. In our 15 years of ACE in San Antonio, Olivia is the first to win a CMiC Allen Berg Memorial Scholarship!

We are so proud of the dedication, commitment, and hard work our students showed throughout the year. Congratulations on your success – your future is bright!

Thank you to all our volunteers for an exceptional year. We can’t wait to continue the success in 2022!

About Us

Founded in 2006, the ACE Mentor Program of Greater San Antonio, Inc. consists of building industry professionals and educators who help high school students learn more about potential careers in architecture, engineering and construction.

During the program, students work in teams under the mentorship of experienced professionals, who guide them through projects that meet real industry requirements. The result is an opportunity to gain practical insight into what building industry professionals do to transform their ideas from an initial concept into a finished building.

In addition, every qualified senior who goes on to university study in a building industry-related field is eligible for a local scholarship.

Our Projects

Over 200 students divided into twelve teams (Brooks Academy, CAST STEM, East Central HS, Highlands HS, John Jay HS/SEA, Lanier HS, Regan HS, South San HS, School of Science and Technology, Stevens HS, Thomas Jefferson HS, & Warren HS/CCA), work on mock projects that address real-world situations. Past projects include San Antonio Elephant and Polar Bear Exhibit, Fire Stations, Lone Star Brewery Mixed-Use Development, San Pedro Park, Woodlawn Park, and a Downtown Grocery Store.

In addition to working on their projects, students visit professional firms, attend College Night at the University of Texas at San Antonio CACP, and attend lectures on industry topics.

At the conclusion of the program year, students present their design solutions and receive feedback from local industry leaders.
