New Strategic Plan

ACE Board Chairman Tom Gilbane has announced a new strategic plan for 2016-2021. Developed by the Board’s Executive Committee, the plan: 1) re-affirms and updates our mission; 2) sets and reinforces our goals; 3) lays out a strategy for achieving success as an organization; and 4) sets a bold goal for growing ACE and reaching far more students nationwide over the next five years. The plan can be viewed here

Nashville and DC Public TV Stations Spotlight ACE

As spinoffs from last fall’s national broadcast of American Graduate Day featuring ACE, two local public TV stations have produced spots highlighting the Nashville and Washington, DC, affiliates. These brief profiles have run several times.

ACE mentors continue to earn recognition for their professional contributions and service to the community.

  • Alicia Weaver, with KSS Architects and the New Jersey affiliate, was named the 2015 AIA New Jersey Intern Architect of the Year.
  • Gia Zapattini, with the Miami office of Perkins + Will and a mentor and board member in 2015 with the Dade County affiliate, earned the Miami AIA chapter’s 2015 Young Architect of the Year award. This AIA chapter also recognized an ACE student as a Student of the Year.

Engineering News-Record has named several mentors to the roll of the Top 20 Under 40 Industry Professionals.

  • Damayanti Chaudhuri, DeSimone Consulting Engineers, with the Greater New York affiliate.
  • Brooke Robbins, chair of the Northeast Florida affiliate and project architect and manager with KBJ Architects.

  • Sarah Khner, Quandel Construction Group, with the Central Pennsylvania affiliate.
Women in Construction Week

On March 6 the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) will launch Women in Construction Week to highlight the role of women in the construction industry. On this occasion ACE affiliates will want to salute women mentors drawn from all areas of the industry.

NAWIC offers $25,000 in scholarships to men and women college students majoring in a construction-related field. Deadline: February 28. Two ACE alumni were among the winners last year. Details about the scholarship are on the NAWIC website.

Two New ACE National Staff

Two new staff members have joined the ACE team. Stefanie Ryan has been named Director of Finance and Support Operations after having spent five years handling ACE's financial and insurance needs at the accounting firm retained by ACE. Yolanda Hendricks is the new Executive Assistant and Office Administrator working out of the ACE headquarters in Rockville, Maryland.
