From his start with the Houston affiliate in 2013, José has been a leader. In his first year, circumstances thrust him into the role of lead mentor. In 2016 he started a team in an underserved, east Houston neighborhood where he grew up and where English is a second language. The first year two students and two mentors participated. Today through his outreach to parents, schools, and industry professionals, 35 students and 9 mentors are actively involved on the team. José continues to mentor and encourage students, even after they finish ACE. Two of his mentees from 2017-18 have returned as mentors on his team.
